Defense To NAMYATS

There are many forms of defense methods against any and all conventional methods. It would be impossible to introduce them all since they are normally based on a partnership agreement and/or understanding. We do wish to present several defense mechanisms whenever possible and whenever we find them. Following are two possible defense methods against Weak Two Bids opened by the opponents.

 

Option: (Source: Jack's Bridge Tips - Last Updated: 9-25-2001)

1. Double is a takeout of the Major suit shown and can be of moderate strength. With a strong hand, double again after the opponents bid their Major suit.

2. Pass, then double the opponents' Major suit bid, is an Optional Double.

3. Cuebid of their Major (4/4 or 4/4) is Michaels.

4. 4 No Trump is Unusual No Trump, for the Minor suits.

5. All other bids are natural.

Note: Passing, then bidding later, shows a weaker hand than an immediate bid.

If you wish to include this feature, or any other feature, of the game of bridge in your partnership agreement, then please make certain that the concept is understood by both partners. Be aware whether or not the feature is alertable or not and whether an announcement should or must be made. Check with the governing body and/or the bridge district and/or the bridge unit prior to the game to establish the guidelines applied. Please include the particular feature on your convention card in order that your opponents are also aware of this feature during the bidding process, since this information must be made known to them according to the Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge. We do not always include the procedure regarding Alerts and/or Announcements, since these regulations are changed and revised during time by the governing body. It is our intention only to present the information as concisely and as accurately as possible.
