These opening bids were devised and developed by Mr. Knut Blakset and his older brother Mr. Lars Blakset of Denmark. Perhaps in a humorous moment they decided to name these opening bids after Knut's cat, which was / is named Nusine. We have been unable to find a definition for this name and rely on an email sent to BridgeGuys.com by Mr. Jens Hult Hansen of Denmark.

Opening Bids Only

1 : 10-22 high card points Shows various shapes, unbalanced distribution. Clubs may be 2 plus cards in length, or
  15-19 high card points shows a balanced distribution and no 5-card plus Major suit.
1 : 10-22 high card points Shows a 4-card plus Diamond suit
1 : 10-21 high card points Shows a 5-card plus Heart suit
1 : 10-21 high card points Shows a 5-card plus Spade suit
1 NT: 12-14 high card points Shows a balanced to semi-balanced shape. A 6-card Minor suit is possible.
2 : 22+ high card points Shows any shape. Game forcing.
2 : 4-10 high card points Promises a 6-card plus unspecified Major suit.
2 : Promises both Major suits. Non-vulnerable the point count can be between 0-8 high card points. Vulnerable the point count can be between 3-10 high card points.
2 : A preemptive bid in any suit. Non-vulnerable the point count can be between 0-8 high card points. Vulnerable the point count can be between 3-8 high card points.
2 NT: 20-21 high card points Shows a balanced shape to semi-balanced.
3 : Preempt in Clubs with a minimum length of 6/7 cards. Point count per partnership agreement. May be based on Losing Trick count.
3 : Preempt in Diamonds with a minimum length of 6/7 cards. Point count per partnership agreement. May be based on Losing Trick count.
3 : Preempt in Hearts with a minimum length of 6/7 cards. Point count per partnership agreement. May be based on Losing Trick count.
3 : Preempt in Spades with a minimum length of 6/7 cards. Point count per partnership agreement. May be based on Losing Trick count.
3 NT: Promises a solid 7-card Minor suit.
4 : 10-14 high card points Promises a strong Major. This opening bid is generally accepted as the Namyats conventional method showing a long Heart suit.
4 : 10-14 high card points Promises a strong Major. This opening bid is generally accepted as the Namyats conventional method showing a long Spade suit.
4 : Promises a 7-card plus Heart suit and is normally based on a holding with 5 or fewer Losing Tricks. Preemptive, especially in competition.
