This conventional defense method was devised by Mr. William (Willie) Jago of Melbourne, Australia. A complete outline can be found in his publication MOST, which describes in detail his Standard System MOST. His publication was first published in the year 1994/1995 and is an acronym of the letters Most Oriented Standard, ISBN: 0646221612, published privately in Docaster, Victoria by the author.

The fundamental principle of his devised concept is that an immediate double following an opening bid of No Trump by the opposing side promises a one-suited holding in any suit. The other features of the competitive defense method is as follows:

Opponent   Intervenor Meaning
1 NT     The range of the No Trump opening is generally considered to be in agreement with the Acol bidding system, and therefore promises values between 12-14 points with a distributional holding.
Double Promises a one-suited holding with values sufficient to enter competitively the auction.
2 Promises a 5-card plus length in Clubs plus at least a 4-card plus unspecified suit.
2 Promises a 5-card plus length in Diamonds plus at least a 4-card plus unspecified suit.
2 Promises a 5-card plus length in Hearts plus at least a 4-card plus unspecified suit.
2 Promises a 5-card plus length in Spades plus at least a 4-card plus unspecified suit.
