Reciprocal Squeeze

This is a variant of the Double Squeeze, whereby the squeeze card is not an established card in the fourth suit. Under these conditions, each opponent is squeezed in turn by a winner in the suit guarded by his partner

Example 1

	North A5 Q4
West K7 K6		East Q6 KQ
	South 4 A AJ

The contract is immaterial. South is the declarer. South leads the Ace of Hearts. This play forces East to choose a discard, which should be a Spade discard. On the second trick, when South plays the Ace of Diamonds, this play squeezes West in both Major suits. If played properly, using the Reciprocal Squeeze, South wins all 4 remaining tricks.

Example 2

	North AK5 54
West Q82 KQ		East J64 KQ
	South 7 AJ AJ

The contract is immaterial. South is the declarer. South leads the Ace of Hearts. This play forces East to discard a Spade. On the second trick, South leads the Ace of Diamonds, and this play squeezes West in both Major suits. If played properly, using the Reciprocal Squeeze, South wins all 5 remaining tricks.

Example 3

	North 5 AK9 4
West Q3 QJ10		East K4 KQ6
	South A7 5 AJ

The contract is immaterial. South is the declarer. South leads the Ace of Diamonds. This play forces West to unguard his Spade holding. On the second trick, South leads a small Heart to the Ace of Hearts in the dummy. On the third trick, the play of the King of Hearts squeezes East in both Spades and Diamonds.

If you wish to include this feature, or any other feature, of the game of bridge in your partnership agreement, then please make certain that the concept is understood by both partners. Be aware whether or not the feature is alertable or not and whether an announcement should or must be made. Check with the governing body and/or the bridge district and/or the bridge unit prior to the game to establish the guidelines applied. Please include the particular feature on your convention card in order that your opponents are also aware of this feature during the bidding process, since this information must be made known to them according to the Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge. We do not always include the procedure regarding Alerts and/or Announcements, since these regulations are changed and revised during time by the governing body.
