Legendary singer Michael Bolton has revealed that he was recently diagnosed with a brain tumor and underwent surgery to have it removed just before the holidays. The 70-year-old said he is now at home recuperating.

Discovery and Diagnosis

Bolton shared the news in an interview on January 5th, saying he had been working nonstop on his tour when he began experiencing difficulties with his memory and balance on stage. After undergoing medical testing, doctors discovered a tumor and said it needed to be removed immediately.

“I thought I was just overworked. I thought I was exhausted from the road and just needed sleep,” Bolton told People. “I had no idea how long this had been going on or how much danger I was in.”

The type and size of the tumor has not been disclosed. The diagnosis came as a shock to the legendary pop singer and Grammy winner.

Immediate Surgery Before the Holidays

Bolton underwent surgery shortly before Thanksgiving to have the tumor removed at a Southern California hospital. The procedure happened quickly after the discovery to deal with the medical issue before it could become more severe.

“The doctors said I should cancel my tour and take the time to recover,” Bolton explained to the Daily Mail. “I realize how serious this is and how lucky I am to come through it.”

Recuperating at home now, Bolton said the experience has given him a new outlook on his life and career.

Tour Postponed During Recovery

The singer has postponed his tour as he recovers from the surgery and regains his strength. He had been scheduled to restart the tour on February 3rd in Las Vegas, with dates across the country through May booked.

“I’m still a bit delirious from the surgery,” Bolton told Variety, “and my doctors insist I rest for at least a month or two before even attempting to get back on the road.”

The 70-year-old has said the good wishes from friends, family and fans has lifted his spirits tremendously during the difficult health battle.

What’s Next

Doctors say Bolton faces at least two months of recovery time before he can consider touring again. In the meantime, he continues undergoing intermittent medical evaluations to monitor his progress.

It remains unclear if further treatments like radiation or chemotherapy will be required, but the singer said he intends to follow his physician’s recommendations closely.

“I know I have a ways to go before I can get back on stage and give my fans 100%,” Bolton told ET Online. “But I’m determined to make a full recovery and get back to sharing my music as soon as I’m able.”

The legendary singer said he has a new appreciation for health, family and the ability to do what he loves after facing the tumor. Though the road ahead involves continued healing, Bolton maintains a positive spirit and looks forward to the future.
