Dell has unveiled a complete overhaul of its premium XPS laptop lineup just ahead of the 2024 Consumer Electronics Show (CES). Sporting the latest 13th Gen Intel Core processors, dedicated AI acceleration, advanced connectivity and gorgeous redesigns, the refreshed XPS 13, XPS 14 and all-new XPS 16 flagship aim to push the boundaries of ultraportable computing.

New XPS 16 Leads the Pack with Cutting-Edge Specs

Headlining Dell’s CES launch event is the brand new 16-inch XPS 16. Built to be Dell’s new premium laptop king, the XPS 16 packs phenomenal power into a thin and lightweight chassis with Intel’s latest Core i7, i9 or Ultramobile i5/i7 chips, up to 64GB DDR5 RAM, 2TB PCIe SSD storage and Nvidia’s new GeForce RTX 40-series GPUs.

The XPS 16 also sports several firsts for Dell’s laptops, including:

  • 16-inch 16:10 3.5K OLED or 4K+ touch displays
  • Intel Deep Link technology enabling tighter CPU-GPU collaboration
  • NPU (Neural Processing Unit) built into 13th Gen Intel chips for accelerated AI tasks
  • Wi-Fi 6E and 5G mobile broadband connectivity

With powerful specs wrapped in a precision-crafted CNC aluminum chassis available in Sky or Umber colors, the XPS 16 brings Dell’s largest-ever InfinityEdge display with virtually borderless panels and Gorilla Glass Victus for durability.

Spec Details
Processor Up to 13th Gen Intel Core i9-13950HX
Graphics Up to Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Laptop GPU
RAM Up to 64GB LPDDR5
Storage Up to 2TB PCIe 4 x4 SSD
Display 16-inch 16:10 display, 3840 x 2400, 500 nits
Connectivity WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, 5G mobile broadband
Ports 3x Thunderbolt 4, SD card reader, headphone jack
Battery Up to 97Wh, 130W USB-C charging
Dimensions (WxDxH) 290.3×199.3×12.1~13.8mm
Weight From 1.82kg / 4.01lbs

With such fearsome power inside an impossibly thin and light chassis, Dell is pitching the XPS 16 as a true desktop replacement for creative pros and demanding power users.

XPS 13 and 14 Also Get Major Upgrades

Joining the XPS 16 are refreshed versions of Dell’s more compact XPS 13 and 14 laptops. Both have been redesigned inside and out to align with the new XPS aesthetic while packing the latest 13th Gen Intel Core U15 and P15 chips respectively.

Key upgrades for the XPS 13 and 14 include:

  • 13th Gen Intel Core U15 or P15 processors
  • LPDDR5 RAM and faster PCIe 4.0 SSD storage
  • 3.5K OLED or 3K LCD InfinityEdge touch displays
  • Wi-Fi 6E/Bluetooth 5.2 wireless
  • 5G mobile broadband connectivity (XPS 14 only)
  • Light, durable and stylish CNC aluminum chassis
  • AI acceleration via Intel’s Deep Link and integrated NPU

The XPS 13 retains its ultraportable form factor but crams even more power into a slightly more compact design vs. the 2023 model. The XPS 14 offers a perfect balance of performance and portability for users wanting a bit more screen real estate compared to the 13 but without jumping all the way up to the 16-inch flagship.

Both models also introduce a new dynamic Function Row along the top edge of the keyboard, with LED icons that change depending on the app or task at hand to reflect relevant shortcut keys.

Comprehensive AI Capabilities Across Lineup

Dell is heavily touting comprehensive AI optimization features across its 2024 XPS family. Central to this is integration of Intel’s Deep Link technology, which enables much tighter collaboration between the CPU, integrated GPU and NPU built into 13th Gen Intel Core chips.

Apps can offload intensive workloads like video editing, 3D rendering and AI-assisted workflows to the appropriate processors. Intel claims up to 2x faster content creation thanks to Deep Link.

Dell’s new Comfort View Plus feature leverages the NPU and integrated AI to actively adjust color profiles and brightness to match ambient lighting conditions. This helps reduce eye strain whether you’re working outdoors or in dimly-lit environments.

There’s also a new dedicated C key on XPS keyboards this year. In supported apps, pressing the C key activates Copilot, summoning an AI assistant to provide helpful suggestions, smart replies or automate repetitive tasks.

Refined, Uniform Premium Design Language

While previous generations of XPS laptops have always been well-designed, Dell’s 2024 refresh brings a cleaner, more cohesive aesthetic across the lineup. The new XPS models feature CNC machined aluminum chassis in a lovely Sky color, with angular lines and smoothly tapered fronts and backs.

Nearly invisible hinges allow each XPS display panel to lie perfectly flush with the rest of the laptop when closed. Dell is also standardizing the keyboard and large precision touchpad design across all models. And the move to 16:10 aspect ratio displays with tiny bezels boosts the screen real-estate versus prior generations.

Overall, the refreshed industrial design makes the latest XPS family look and feel truly premium while ensuring a consistent experience regardless of which model you choose.

Outlook: XPS Elevates Ultraportable Computing in 2024

With their cutting-edge specs, refined designs and heavy focus on AI, Dell’s overhauled XPS 13, 14 and 16 laptop families look extremely promising heading into 2024. Intel and Dell appear to have collaborated very closely in optimizing the latest 13th Gen platform’s advanced features like Deep Link for the new XPS models.

And by consolidating all models under a uniform premium design language, Dell has crafted what could become the new gold standard for premium ultraportables this year and beyond. Of course pricing and real-world performance will be key, but the spec sheets and hands-on impressions so far suggest Dell is aiming to retake the ultrabook crown with its 2024 XPS lineup.
